Lummi Island

Lummi Island

As a self-proclaimed foodie, I'm always looking for the small place to seek out. A Wall Street Journal article The 3 Gastronomic Inns Every Foodie Should Visit caught my eye. The last Inn mentioned, Willows Inn, located on Lummi Island off the coast of Seattle sounds amazing. It appears that the chef, Blaine Wetzel is a native Washingtonian but recently spent three years cooking at Noma. A sort of pilgrimage, the Inn is a 2.5 hour ferry from Seattle but the retreat it offers seems worth the trek. Activities from the Inn are arranged by Outer Island Adventures and include the chance to catch Dungeness crabs and eat your catch on a secluded beach. That, coupled with a meal by Chef Wetzel at the restaurant at Willows Inn seems like a great escape. Three nature preserves provide great hiking on the island or bicycle rentals can be arranged. Should you be intrigued by the hyperlocal approach but not see yourself getting there, Wetzel published a cookbook Sea and Smoke.
